What I do

• I test the battery, the charging system’s output and the starting circuit.
• If the starter or alternator has failed, I explain the test results and give you a written estimate.
• If you approve, I replace it where the vehicle is parked when the location allows, then check that it starts and charges properly.

What helps me give you an estimate

• Year, make and model, or the VIN, and the engine if you know it
• What you’re noticing and when it started
• Whether the battery was replaced recently
• Where the vehicle is parked

What affects the price

• Your vehicle and engine: on some, the starter or alternator is easy to reach; on others it takes much more labor
• The part and its availability
• Whether testing shows the battery or a connection is the real problem

If testing is needed to find the cause, the diagnostic visit is $90, credited toward the repair if you authorize it.

Coverage

Standard repairs using parts I supply include six months of coverage on those parts and my installation workmanship, starting when the repair is completed. Customer-supplied parts receive workmanship coverage only. Used engines, transmissions and other major assemblies have separate written warranty terms. Full warranty terms.
